Well laying in bed last night watching TV I began to notice an awful trend. Almost every "reality show" that is on TV focuses on a rediculous conception of beauty.
Example 1: Fear Factor: Now I know that to do some of the stunts they do you may have to be a little in shape, but being in shape does not mean you have six pack abs and a bakini worthy body. Thats the extreme end of the spectrum.
Example 2: American Idol: In a competition that is supposed to fuel someones singing career, a career that is ultimately based on how well someone likes your voice, its sad that there has to be a "look" that determines if you make it or not. So what if someone wieghs 300 lbs, if they have an amazing set of pipes I would listen to them over some skinny tone deaf bitch any day.
Example 3: Room Raiders: While watching this I saw a young man who almost made me feel sick. His idea of a perfect girl was someone who is under 130lbs and had perfectly round boobs. News flash dickwad. She doesnt exist. I dont think it gets any more shallow than this.
Final Example: Next: While I have a secret love for this show, and it is mildly entertaining, I hate to see people get sent back to the bus just because someone doesnt like the way they look, I mean jesus, there is alot more to people than looks, and if you cant see beyond someones skin, face, weight or hair, then you diserve to be a lonely miserable person.
So while I used to fathom why so many people have low self esteem, it becomes quiet clear to me that you really cant help but feel a bit of an effection from this, wether you realize it or not. Its everywhere, and honestly I am a bit saddened that society has become so empty and shallow.
